Pacific Islander Youth Leadership in Action Talanoa: Simeon Jacob

Simeon Jacob – Pacific Climate Warriors (PCW) PDX Coordinator and Environmental Justice Coordinator of the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO)

We are excited to announce our third and final Talanoa for PISACON2020, Simeon Jacob of the Pacific Climate Warriors (PCW) PDX, coordinator.

Since 2018, Simeon has lead the charge for Pacific Islander climate work here in Portland as the Coordinator of our PCW chapter. Simeon’s passion to serve and represent his people (Micronesian(Pingelap)/Vietnamese American) and Oceania, has been a great asset to the climate movement.

As the Environmental Justice Coordinator of the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO), Simeon works with the Portland community, specifically Asian and Pacific Islander youth, uniting them to achieve social justice.

“We might be far from home, but we’re here standing in our truths to be the voice for our families and our Pacific communities. The climate crisis is real and we’re going to do something about it.”

Simeon was also apart of the PISA revival in 2015-16 as a student coordinator of the PISA forums. They have been with PISACON since its return in 2018. We are greatful for Simeon’s leadership and excited to hear them share their experience with everyone at PISACON2020.

In the moonlight, he also organizes with the Portland freestyle dance community hosting and DJing open sessions, which are a weekly dance session open to all bodies and all styles of movement. In all spaces they are committed to holding space for Pacific Islanders to lean into their own power.
